Last June there was a strong contingent of Cornish Iyengar Yoga enthusiasts amongst the approx. 800 students attending the IYAUK Convention with Dr. Geeta S. Iyengar untiringly teaching the full 5 days. This sounds like a lot of people, but with an amazing teacher such as Geetaji who is used to observing large groups of yoga students, rest assured that you still feel that her eye is on you or perhaps that her mind has checked yours out and that the Iyengar energy lifts you.
The acoustics and large screens made for easy observation of details pointed out on her niece's body when teaching us the subtler nuances of the poses. The yoga was familiar and yet fresh and inspiring with interesting sequences that many SWIYI students may already have had a taste of, due to the visits for SWIYI workshops of the Senior teachers who are so good at passing on up-to-date and innovative new yoga information. There was also a fair amount of therapeutic yoga presented for us and an exhibition from Pune celebrating Sri BKS Iyengar's 90th birthday.
The venue was ideally placed near London Bridge and right on the breezy Thames, so all participants were able to enjoy river-walking and outdoor cafes. Attending an event such as this certainly does leave its mark on your body and mind and I would encourage anyone who has attended a few SWIYI workshops to try one, if you have not already done so.
Until the next Convention.
